Piano Man

We saw Billy Joel in concert last night.

I had never seen such perfection, such beauty and energy in a performer. The voice hasn’t changed a bit! There wasn’t a single song I didn’t like, not a single mistake, not a sign of weariness. I almost cried when he sang ‘Honesty’… and it was only the third song!

After the concert we were left speechless, in a dream-like state. Had this been real? Aren’t we still occupying two seats in the Tokyo Dome, waiting for something to happen?

Or maybe we had actually been awake then, only to go back to a troublesome sleep full of strange nightmares. If so, how fortunate of us to have that voice lingering in our heads!

After the Battle

All that’s left is uncertainty and destruction.
Are we victorious?

Soldiers, go to sleep.
Tomorrow a new clash awaits for you.

Final Exams

What is it, stirring in my soul?

A flaming snake, caressing the walls of my heart and setting them ablaze.
A cataclysm, tumbling down my feeble confidence, changing the rich landscape of my feelings into a vast desolate heath, a region full of polluted soil where no hope can grow.
A silver claw, wrenching the hearts of those whom I love and throwing them far away for sorrow and regret to fetch them back.

How I despise this feeling of helplessness, watching myself signing my death sentence on answer sheets.
O fate, I’ve been writing you blindly this week!

抗議

The reading book says Complain! Complain! Do not stand there like an idiot while your rights are being trampled on!

While we may feel the text is pure nonsense, our feeble voices reach nowhere, and all that’s left to do is open a blog and type furiously, the Finnish seem to have found the best way in the whole world to let everyone know what upsets them.

I’m an alto 2, and I’m way too tired to stuff economy, politics, history, grammar, and kanji into my brain this week. Who wants to sing with me?
